DJ Rakesh Ramdhin-Lotus FM

Q. Some information about your childhood – where you grew up, what were you like as a child,a bit about your family background?

I schooled in Chatsworth, and shortly after matric I relocated to Gauteng. The family is in Midrand. I throughly enjoyed sport and represented KZN in various athletic meetings.

Q.Your education – what did you study – when did you decide that you wanted to work in the media?

After I finished school I had to work and then when I could I did a few computer courses and several years later, through a partime program I did my MBA. I was more interested in being on radio and through radio other opportunities opened up. I now write for the Sunday Tribune as well.

Q. A brief history of your club DJ days – what inspired this and how did you get into it?

As a kid I always hung put with the ‘boys’ from the neighbourhood who ran a ‘mobile disco.’ I was facinated with what could be done with vinyl and I was a (still am) a radio fan. I remember listening to stations such as Springbok Radio and Capital 604. I never was a resident DJ at any club but have played at numerous clubs throughout Southern Africa. I have also played internationally. Earlier this year, I did a gig in Juhu, Mumbai

Q.How did you get your first break into radio and a brief history of your radio career – the shows that you had presented and what you currently do ?

This was difficult it actually was just perseverance. I had left Gauteng and was determined to get into radio. It was a matter of believing in myself. It was a great sacrifice and today I am glad to have made this choice.
